Collagen injections treat the visible signs of aging where they
start – below the skin’s surface.
Collagen is a protein found in many parts of the body, including
in the skin, bones and muscles. Acting as a natural scaffolding, it
provides support to the skin. Due to factors including age, trauma, smoking, and heredity,
collagen fibers harden and their uniform texture disintegrates. This
process translates into fine lines, wrinkles and creases wherever surface
skin settles into the depressed zones.
Collagen injections fill in gaps and irregularities within the existing
collagen to restore the natural contours of your face. It can smooth out wrinkles, certain types of scars, and other skin depressions
by replenishing your skin's lost collagen. Collagen treatments can also enhance the natural shape and fullness of your lips and
can fill in "lipstick lines".
Because a small percentage of people are allergic to bovine collagen, you will need
two skin tests prior to your first treatment. After treatment, results are immediate and recovery time
is brief. Also, like the skin’s own collagen, the injections wear off over time. Results typically
last three to six months.
