WHY I TAKE CREATINE
Yes, I take creatine — and no, it’s NOT just for bodybuilders. Creatine monohydrate is one of the most studied supplements, and it’s been shown to help improve strength, muscle tone, and energy.
This is especially important for those of us who are perimenopausal/menopausal and dealing with hormone changes.
⭐️ Benefits:
💪 More strength
🦵 Better muscle tone
🏋️ Faster recovery from workouts
🧠🦴 Brain and Bone support
Some of you have asked me about reports of hair shedding on creatine. I haven’t seen this in my patients, and it’s always wise to consider the source of “reports.” There was one study of 20 rugby players from 15 years ago that showed higher DHT levels after 7 days of creatine. DHT can cause hair loss. However, over 20 studies since then have failed to show any link to hair loss.
Some patients are also concerned about weight gain. This has mainly been seen in male bodybuilders who take a high “loading dose” of creatine, due to water retention (primarily in muscles). A systematic review & meta-analysis of 656 studies showed no weight gain in women, or other serious adverse side effects. PMID 32549301
That said, as with any supplement, I always advise patients to discuss with their primary physician before starting anything new.
